2,268 days - what does that mean? The number of days until we leave Florida and head to Georgia to begin the next phase of our lives. Back in January of this year, the hubs and I sat down and figured out what we need to do financially in order to 'retire early'. It was January 27th, and we were at our dining room table. We wrote everything down on a sheet of paper, and I dated it. The next day I was a bit curious how many months and days 7 years actually was. Let's face it, 7 years sounds like an eternity! Heck, some people take a car loan out for that long (not us - we have NO car debt)! So, like any normal American, I went to Google and asked it the number of days and months. Eighty-four months didn't sound so bad, but for me, it seemed a little difficult to track, so I went with days.
The number of days - wait for it - was 2,554 days, as of 1/28/19. WOW - that's a lot of days. Or is it? Here we are on September 8th, and we are already at 2,268 so 286 days have already gone by! What have we done to prepare? Have we increased our savings and investments? How much has our mortgage gone down? Where are we in the big scheme of things? And this is the reason I chose to track days: 1.) it's easier to write the number on my planner each day, and 2.) time goes by quickly so your goal has to stay in front of your face!
Kind of like this guy, Luca, if your goal isn't in your face all the time, then you can quickly lose sight of it. In Luca's case, his goal is to eat all the time. If he doesn't stay in our faces, he might not get fed!
